Don Garrison's Illinois Central Southern Illinois

Southern Illinois rivals the Reading in Central Pennsylvania as the prototype to which I return the most, having done plans based on the area for Mark Nolan, Tom Austin, and Scott Thompson. The plan for Don was made more challenging due to steeply inclined sloping walls on three sides. We had to give up some valuable real estate because of limited headroom in the corners. Instead of a space-eating helix, the two levels are connected by a ramp that bisects the lower-level backdrop so access from the main aisle is possible. The north (Chicago) staging loop sits under the visible upper deck to preserve the most possible room for visible mainline.
